Wordless Wednesday ~ Sibling Fun

If only I could keep up on all the changes going on around this place.  Here are a few pictures of the latest antics!

Hungry

He kept saying “pi-o” (pillow) then laying on her tummy!

Snuggles

Here he’s drinking milk AND juice simultaneously!  I’ve decided to stop trying to figure out his crazy requests.  He really did want both.  He rotated between the two until they were both empty!

Why Not

You HAVE to look at the big version of this picture.  It cracks me up every time I see it!  Seneca’s crazy tongue and Calder’s slightly scared expression seem to hint at the crazy days ahead!  It’s like he’s thinking Wait a sec!  You mean she moves now?!

Let the fun begin

Go Hawks!

Upon my return from a morning spent shopping with the other crazy folks the Friday after Thanksgiving, I was shocked to find this.

Bloody Nose

Apparently, he “picked” his nose.  See, he likes to use brushes, combs when I’m getting ready.  Well, I guess he found my pick while I was out shopping and when Garth when to lay Seneca down for a nap, Calder shoved the pick up his nose.  Ouch, I know!  He’s just fine now, but that sure made him look really tough.  Thankfully, we cleaned him up and headed to Ford Field with most of the town to watch our LHS Blackhawks fight for a state title victory.

It was an amazing experience to see so many friends and families rally around this young team as they made history for our small town.  Since the game, Calder has been ecstatic about football (actually football, basketball, soccer, you name it…).  I would have liked to get a few more pictures, but between holding a sleeping Seneca and wrangling a crazy toddler, my hands were fairly full.

Hawks

I just love this shot of him so fascinated by the action on the field!  By this point in the evening, we was glad for the opportunity to run around, and when something big happened he would clap and scream wildly!  A Blackhawk fan for sure! 🙂

Into the game

The time has come…

It seems like just yesterday that I was welcoming home my precious bundle of girly-pink joy.  Yet, here it is nearly four months later and today, in spite of the inches upon inches of heavy white snow that blanketed our entire area, I climbed out of bed and returned to work.

I felt a strange mix of excitment and anxiety, hope and fear, uncertainty and confidence.  In just this one day I’ve learned that I musn’t look too far ahead or else I begin feeling the weight of all the expectations I have placed upon myself.

And while the crankiness of a certain teething toddler (yes, he’s still teething!) isn’t something I particularly enjoy, I absolutely miss his sweet smiles and gentle kisses.  As we made the slow turn onto the daycare provider’s road, I heard a faint, “No.  No.  Mom?  No.  Mom?”  from the backseat.  As if the lump in my throat wasn’t hard enough to choke back, now I had the stinging eyes too!  He did have a bit of a meltdown when we parted ways, but was over it within 30 seconds, which is what makes it bearable in the least.

My classes seem great, with a few characters – but how boring would it be if there weren’t a few of those in the mix?!  I noticed that this is the first year since I’ve taught middle school that I really see them for the kids they still are.  I think perhaps because I moved up from fifth grade, I’d always thought of these students as older and I’ve treated them much differently.  It was a neat feeling and one that I’m not sure I can accurately describe.  It felt like an important moment, a turning point perhaps in the scope of my teaching career.

I suppose I’d best settle in since I’m beat from a full day of school, cheer practice, a quick dinner, and then 3 hours of worship band rehearsal.  Oh, and I’ve already managed to put off one small school project I was hoping to complete tonight!

Photo Contest

Among their great giveaways, 5 Minutes for Mom is also hosting a photo contest sponsored by Prego.  Now that Calder is getting a little older, I’m finding meal times to be quite adventurous.  More often than not, we end up going right from dinner into the tub.  I especially love his hands-behind-the-head move which does wonders for his hair!

While it was tricky to choose just one of a growing number of favorite food photos, this one still makes me smile.

Innocence

Here’s hoping we’re one of the finalists – we’ll find out next week!

Reality Check ~ Best Shot Monday

I know this is coming in just under the wire…as I mentioned earlier, once I head back to work I’m bound to have a few sparse tumbleweeds blowing through these parts.  At least then my virtual “home” will resemble my real home in the amount of cobwebs adorning the corners!

In any case, I’ve had these images up in my photostream for a few days at least, and I just had to pull them out as my best shots this week.  This is, in part, because they remind me that just last week we were outside in shorts and t-shirts enjoying an evening on the deck, and today I pulled out hats, mittens and winter coats to bundle up before heading into town.  Thankfully the light dusting of snow that graced the ground quickly melted away – I’m just not quite ready for that yet!

Calder was proudly naming his facial features while I was changing yet another poopy diaper, and when he got to his nose, he did this…

Double Barrel

And Seneca, well, she’s growing like a weed despite the fact that she spits up at least 50% of every feeding! She’s quite the urpy baby, but thankfully she’s what the doctor reported as “a happy spitter.” I just love the glistening bit of spittle on her chubby cheeks here!

Sweet Spitter

These daily doses of reality – the unrefined and silly moments of motherhood – that remind me to slow down and enjoy the ride!
