Meet Sam…

Sam

He looks harmless, right?  According to a certain toddler living in our home, he’s a pretty scary dude.  Even after repeated “introductions” wherein we point out his eyes, nose, mouth, and hair and even give him kisses, Calder remains rather uncertain of this scarecrow.

At one point I simply said the word “scarecrow” which incited the same scared response.  Arms pulled back and high on his chest, backpeddling and raised eyebrows.  Now, we call him “Sam” which he seems to be less afraid of.

So, I’m guessing that if this freaks him out, taking him trick-or-treating would likely be tragic.  This might be a good year to stay home and hand out candy instead.

Theme Thursday ~ Fall

The weather has been simply marvelous lately.  The slight bite to the air warrants a comfy sweatshirt or chunky sweater, but the warmth of the sun affords mid-afternoon walks, crunching through the leaves, or enjoying a few more back-and-forths on the swing.

While I’m well aware that flip-flops aren’t the most practical, supportive, or fashionable shoes, they are a staple I’ve grown to love.  The fact that I can still wear them well into October is happiness indeed.

Flip Flops

This was a test shot I took for my first “official” photoshoot for some friends.  I thought the colors were too pretty to toss into the recycle bin.
Fall Colors

Taken at dusk and perhaps photographically unimpressive, I can’t help but smile when I see those chubby cheeks.  Knowing his upturned eyes are gazing admiringly at his daddy makes my heart flutter!

From the Future ~ BSM

While most people use the timestamp feature to prepare their posts ahead of time, I, on the other hand, am using it to play catch up!

As we enjoyed some beautiful weather last weekend (mid-80s folks in October folks!) we took the kids to the park in an attempt to capture some cute shots.

This little furrowed-brow look is one she flashes A-L-O-T !!

Pretty in Purple

Love the tongue sticking out – it must help him concentrate.

Rock Climbing 1

This slide is slow and bumpy, Mom!

Rock Climbing 2

Or maybe the tongue helps him balance.  Notice the blurry hands – he was bustin’ some serious surfin’ moves here!

Rock Climbing 3

Finally, he’s not “too cool” and shows how proud he is to be “King of the Rock!”

Rock Climbing 4

It was so sunny and this one was so blown out, that I embraced the brightness and processed it differently.  This one has to be my favorite!  One crying, the other oblivious….such is life!

Best Shot Monday ~ Cider Mill Fun

We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for our trip to Uncle John’s Cider Mill on Saturday.  It was great fall fun and it gave us a chance to hang out with our friends for a while too!

Finally, my Best Shot.  I don’t think there’s anything about this image I could love more!  He seems like such a big boy here!

Even though I’m late this week, I still wanted to play.  Head here to see other best shots!

The book fairy

Being rather into words myself, I’m thrilled that Calder seems to enjoy his books.  Often times, amidst what I’m sure is brilliant baby-onics, I’ll hear his recognizable “A, O, U!” when he’s looking at text.  Mind you, it might be a book, the bottle of lotion or what have you.  This little vowel game started way back in May when Garth and Calder spent a weekend up north so he could speak at a banquet at his high school.  Apparently Calder found the vowels to be highly entertaining when Grandma recited them, and well, now he says his vowels!

Well, “O” and “U” are almost always said, sometimes “A.”  The “E” and “I” however, haven’t quite made the cut.  We’re singing “Old MacDonald” in hopes that they’ll grow on him!

I’m always trying to find books to share with Calder – those I love, and new ones as well.  While we’ve been blessed with several books from family members, it seems that a recent visit from Aunt Julie (aka. the book fairy) has taken our level of bookcase fullness to new heights.  The huge box was loaded with all sorts of books enjoyed by her boys, the youngest of whom is now in middle school.

It’s been fun sharing these stories, and finding early cursive handwriting in the “This Book Belongs to” labels inside some of them.  When I finally got around to sorting them a little, I found this…

Multiples

I know I’ve done it myself – purchased a book only to find I already owned it.  But this really has me wondering how they came to have four (I think there might have been five actually, but I wasn’t about to wander into a napping child’s room to check) copies of this little classic?  If I ever find out, I’ll be sure to share!

While I know this is extremely late, I had to share my multiples for today, and thought these were much more interesting than piles of dirty laundry!
