Lost Tooth

About 6 weeks ago, Buddy came home with a loose tooth.  He was so excited by the thought of getting on the tooth chart at school, I thought for sure he’d have yanked it out right away.  He didn’t.  It got looser and looser and he tried getting it out on Christmas Eve so that Santa and The Tooth Fairy could bump into each other!  But that didn’t happen either.

So, we waited and worked and finally, tonight I asked for one more chance to work on it before we brushed his teeth!  Squeezing Dad’s hands, and holding his breath, I grabbed hold and get just a teensy little push, then a bit of a pull.  His face squinched up and he was on the verge of tears, when I said, “It’s out!”

The expression on his face was pure delight!  He was shaking and giggling and kept checking the mirror to see the big empty space where his adult tooth had already started coming in behind his baby tooth.

“I can’t believe I lost a tooth tonight!”  he said over and over!  Watching him bask in the glow of this rite of passage was absolutely adorable!  Sis went and grabbed a paper to write a note to the Tooth Fairy and I think she was equal parts thrilled for him and bummed that it wasn’t her tooth!

I’d begun prepping a tooth pillow a few weeks ago, and of course it was unfinished.  So, I put in a few rough finishing stitches and had him pin an envelope onto it.  The Tooth Fairy has already left him a gold dollar and special note, so it’s likely there will be a follow-up post tomorrow once he finds his treasure!

Gotta remember…

…when we have truly terrific days like today!  When there were more small successes than failures.  When “pleases” and “thank yous” were offered almost without need of reminder.  Days that mark rites of passage like being tough when it’s your turn to have blood drawn.  No tears, no nothing, just awesomeness and bravery.  Surviving a trip to a fine china shop with two small children and not. breaking. anything.  Surprising kids with an awesome indoor play place where they can run wild and free.  Watching your daughter’s world turn upside down as you climb through the play structure with her and let her be the one in charge for a while.  Enjoying a delicious and altogether over-the-top lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.  Soothing bruised egos when embarrassing things happen to little ones.  Impromptu trips to Mom and Dad’s where it’s totally OK if we all ended up sacked out on various couches for an afternoon snooze.  Enjoying family sing-alongs on dark drives home, and averting potential crises by making molehills out of potential take-your-medicine mountains.

Yup.  It’s days like this that I need to keep fresh and ready in my mind to realize just how absolutely, positively blessed I truly am.

New Beginnings

As usual, I’m sitting on the floor with my computer on the coffee table, staying up far too late and finding countless ways to pass the uninterrupted hours of the night.  And, well, I read a blog post tonight of that showcased a daughter.  I’ve been feeling a little “lost” lately – like I didn’t have a virtual home any more.

So after Operation Reorganization in the kids’ room today, I did a little virtual house-cleaning here as well.  I thought about starting completely fresh with a new blog, but opted instead to do a little work instead and keep it all in one place!  So, some of you may recognize this as the old “Infinity’s Edge” blog.  Or the failed attempt at my Project 365.

Either way, it’s safe to say we’re the Cornwell Crew, a turn of phrase I’ve adopted this year in my middle school classroom and one that’s grown on me.  I can hardly begin to say that I’ll write regularly, or frequently.  I can hope to.  I can hope to share pictures, seeing as now I’m a photographer in additional to returning full-time as an English teacher.  For me, it’s not about stats or hits or readership, it’s about curating memories of and for my family.  That’s perhaps the biggest thing I’ve missed about blogging.

If you’re here and you’re interested in reading and sharing in our misadventures, we’d love to hear from you!

Web Presence 023

As you can tell things are a bit hectic around here.  I’m still taking a few pictures and trying to be a bit more purposeful about scheduling writing time.  Perhaps the biggest excitement is the final countdown to summer!  It’s sure to be a wild ride of fun, sun and family busy-ness!

After a productive weekend with amazing people, there’s still something about seeing the sunset from a homeward bound airplane that makes the journey even sweeter!  Here’s hoping I can get a few shots of my sweaty little babes up this week!!  We hit 90 today and I think it’s going to be right around there most of the week!
