Many thanks

I knew I would have a hard time committing to the daily posts leading to Thanksgiving, but I really feel compelled to put it out there, for the record, that I am moved beyond words by the blessings I have in my life.  This weekend, which was relatively laid back with only 2 events planned on Saturday, church activities and grocery shopping today, has somehow passed in a flash (yet again) and I find myself in the twinkling glow of my festive living room.  It’s here, that I’m reminded that not everyone has shelter from the wind I hear screaming outside.

Just yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing one of those special, marriage moments with my amazing husband.  It’s a story that may be shared someday, but for now I am so thankful for the mutual respect of our relationship and the vault we can use to store our most sacred secrets!

After sharing a much-needed two-hour nap with my special snuggler, we spent the evening with close friends talking, laughing and learning more about the joys and challenges of the Christian life.  I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to worship freely and humbled by the mighty God we serve.

I pray for strength for the weeks ahead and patience through this happy, yet hectic holiday holiday season as I continue to find that balance between family, work, and hobbies.

The City that Never Sleeps

Well, almost.  I can hardly stand being so close to the city and not yet in it!  We arrived at our Newark hotel around 11:30 tonight, after two rather turbulent flights and a slight delay in Detroit (isn’t that always the case?).  Yet here I am, still awak and planning to get up in a mere 5 hours to put in a really long day of conferences and running around the city in all my reminiscent glory!

But, I had to post.  I had to report that so far I haven’t broken down into a heap of sobbing having been separated from my child since 4 o’clock today and turning in for my first night away from him.  I know that this will be a good experience and I have no doubt that my husband will do an amazing job flying solo this weekend…it’s just that there was something pretty cool, knowing that I’d been with him every night of his little life.

But now I have a different cool thing to report.  After two nights of waking to uncontrollable wails from the nursery, this morning we discovered the culprit.  A tiny, nearly imperceptible edge of a bottom tooth!  That’s right!  He’s got some pearly whites!  I’m interested to see how much more it has come through when I return on Sunday!  I’m also curious about how 5 days on the bottle will go.  It could be a really good thing, while he’s getting used to this newfound toy.  Or a really bad thing, since bottles don’t feel pain when chomped on and tugged!

Well, that’s my exciting news for today.  I have a million and one other ideas floating around in my sleepy head, but they will have to find their way to all of you another day.

Feelin’ the love

Getting ready this morning I heard my phone buzzing away on the counter and learned I missed a call from my “little” brother.  I can only imagine what he wanted/needed what with his w-e-d-d-i-n-g being only 80 days away and all!

That got me to thinking that perhaps a handful of my readers may want to swing by their wedding web page and read about their big day!  They included a link to their site on the Save the Date cards, but I’m not sure if it worked perfectly.  Try this first.  If that doesn’t work simply go to the knot and in the lower right-hand corner you can search for a couple’s wedding web page.  Be sure to type in Lucas (not Luke) Ewing or Ann Geddie.

Be sure to sign their guestbook to wish them well!

Pleasantly surprised

After drifting off to sleep at a relatively early hour last night, chubby-cheeked baby in the crook of my arm, I woke up feeling quite refreshed today.  I suppose that’s good considering my 12+ hour day!  Though I still have a few things to do, I’m about to call it a night and turn in.  I’ve come to terms with the fact that I will never be caught up on everything and in the grande scheme of things some of what I worry about just isn’t worth it.

Today was the first day of cheer practice and I had 11 girls come out for 7th grade, with another 9 in attendance for 8th grade.  I think we’re going to keep it in two teams which might work much better for practice schedules and so forth.  They did a great job learning the first 10-count drill and seem to be a pretty good group so far.  I can’t wait to work them a little harder and join in on some of their warm-up so I’m getting a slight workout too!

Following practice I wrapped up a few things in my classroom, chatted with the 8th grade coach and headed off to weight watchers.  I was pleasantly surprised with my 2.4lb loss this week and decided that it was a lucky break…again!  I had a friend join last week, so having a closer accountability partner is nice.  Plus, there are two colleagues of mine at the meetings and another couple folks on plan in our small group.  That placement is nice because folks are bringing healthy treats since there are so many of us trying to “be good.”

What pleasant surprises have you had recently?

What I should’ve said

So I’m not really sure that I like admitting I was watching How I Met Your Mother, but alas, it was on, I was here, I was watching.  In any case, tonight’s episode was filled with “should’ve said” moments and it made for a rather interesting way to tell the story.  Add to that the fact that whole show is told in flashback and it really is pretty complex (even if it’s pretty raucous for primetime).

Anyway, I’m sitting here tonight, knowing that I need to report my not-so-fabulous weigh in last week and I’m secretly dreading tomorrow night too!  I guess it’s because I “should’ve said” a few more “no thank-you’s” instead of so many “yes please’s” in the past weeks.

Now, I’m not really that broken up about it, but I think my drastic decrease in physical activity (I’ve been a little lax since cross ended) coupled with my overconfidence about what foods I could consider wise choices, I’ve started feeling a little less-than-fabulous in the past few days especially.

Luckily my next season is starting tomorrow and I’m hoping that my personal desire for conditioning doesn’t turn away any of my seventh grade competitive cheerleaders.  On a positive note, we found our camera case and I will be posting photos soon.  Plus, we got some great video tonight of Calder cracking up at Xanther!  I hope to get it posted later this week.
