Just wondering…

Yummy Snacks

Does anyone else keep a list of possible blogging topics interspersed with grocery items or household chores?  I know, I should probably keep separate lists, but really that would

  1. make too much sense and
  2. require multiple post-its which could result in the loss of any and/or all of them!

I know I’ve writtenabout the “have to’s” and “want to’s” and at the time I was a little overwhelmed and looking back disappointed.  Now, I’m still overwhelmed, but curious.  There are some days, like yesterday when all I do is sit and savor every small moment of my time off and say “Who cares!” when it comes to laundry and dishes and all those other things that have to be done.  Then, I swing to the complete opposite end of the spectrum and go on power-cleaning kicks and insane reorganization and realize that Calder has just pushed his way between me and the cabinet I was trying to clean for a reason – he needs attention to.  And how about hubby?  How often to we have time alone?

So, I’m trying to think of the rest of my time at home as a dress rehearsal for the big show, which takes the stage in December.  I know that once I’m back to work my Parentingmagazines are unlikely to be read in a timely manner.  The books I’d like to read might take a while, and the thousands of writing ideas (for blogging or otherwise) may get only as far as the jotted note in my journal.

Yet I’d like to try.  I’d like to do my best to eek (is that really how to spell it?) the most out of each day, each hour, each precious minute.  When I read this article it got me thinking.  While I have a penchant for photography, reading, writing, and blogging (with or without the time to actually post, and even less time to comment on others’ blogs – so sorry!), I don’t always manage my time well enough to do each of these things.

I’m thinking about when I go back to work and how I’ll have even less (sigh) time to write, read, comment, etc.  I’m trying to get into a routine of writing out my posts for the week and publishing them via time stamp.  Does anyone else do something similar?  What are the habits and practices that have worked for you?  Which ones didn’t?  I know many of you have children, full time jobs, and several other involvements – so how do you find the time to do it all?

On a slightly different note, I find myself stuck in the same “tone” in many of my posts.  I’m still fairly new to this process and I wonder if this will change with time and experience.  Can the writing I do here stretch me as a writer too?  How do the roles of audience and purpose factor into the equation?  I’d love to hear from someone…anyone!

Learning to Shine ~ Best Shot Monday

I fully intended to post this picture (among others) for Stacy’s playtime theme last week, but [insert excuse].  I did have the chance to play around with PS a little more this week/weekend and I’d like to say I’m starting to get it, but I think that’s being generous.  There are still SO many things that happen that I don’t know I could duplicate.

I followed the steps in this tutorialto build more a different type of frame and I think it worked relatively well.  I’m still playing with borders and such.  I believe the image itself is SOOC (so I could have played along with Melody on Saturday too, but [insert different excuse]).  I was SO excited to get this shot!  We just replaced the batteries in Calder’s little toy (first and last time since they were already dying a few hours later!) and I took this in near darkness using my remote.  So, a few days late and in under the wire tonight…here’s my best shot for this fine Monday (it’s even better big)!

The Fair ~ Fun, Food and Friendship

Thanks to a menacing sky and a torrential downpour (that lasted just long enough for us to change our plans) we missed our opportunity to visit the local county fair this summer.  I was eager to take C. through the barns and to sink my still-craving-sweets-like-crazy teeth into the soft, sugary goodness of a fresh elephant ear.

So, I was beyond thrilled when we arrived in the U.P. for the holiday weekend when we were invited to the fair by my mother-in-law and niece.  With Seneca in the sling and Calder in the stroller we made our rounds.

First the “birds” – but only from a distance.  He sure tried climbing out of his stroller when Grandma wheeled him a tad too close!

Hey Chick!

Then the cows…which he really liked

Moo Cow

The sheep were cute and many came up to the gates to get some lovin’.

Sheep

There were a couple pig barns, and surprisingly they really weren’t that stinky!  I stuck my camera over the side of the pen for this shot.  Is it just me, or do they look like they’re smiling?  I figured this image was better than the other one I took of a pig – **wink, wink, Mom!**

Snuggly Piggies

After a short stop for a hot dog, we made it to the rides.  They sure look like a lot of fun, but we were pushing our luck as it was nap time.  Factor in the snuggling newborn and a very vivid memory of nearly losing my brother from a high-flying fair ride many moons ago and I wasn’t about to purchase any tickets.  Maybe some kiddie rides next year…maybe.

Loop Plane

As if I thought he’d turn down fried dough topped with cinnamon and sugar.  He was working his “more” sign to the bone for a few minutes.  The three of us enjoyed sharing the monstrous confection.  That is, until the wind caught the paper plate and sent the last bits of it showering over Calder.

Elephant Ears

As Mom and I headed home with the kids, K. left with her friends to hang out for an hour or so.  I can’t believe that she’s already in middle school.  It seriously feels like yesterday that my friends and I were walking arm in arm around the fair, running down the halls and hanging out at bonfires.
