Happy Birthday, Little Brother

As luck would have it, my baby brother is in Ohio this week – a much more reasonable drive than his permanent residence in Oklahoma.  Yet, his full schedule and early flight made a visit impossible.  Looks like we’ll have to stay connected through texts, calls and web cam chats until Thanksgiving!

Since I don’t have any recent pics of you, I swiped this one from your Facebook albums.  About 10 years ago, I remember you saying that you weren’t going to the airport again unless it was you getting on a plane to go somewhere.  If only you’d known the truth in those words.

You’ve come a long way from being hauled into my first grade class for show-and-tell 24 years ago!  I cannot begin to express how proud I am of you.  I know you have done, and will continue to do amazing things.  God has a mighty plan for you – and I count myself lucky to witness your journey.

Have a wonderful birthday and blessed year ahead!

Theme Thursday ~ Fall

The weather has been simply marvelous lately.  The slight bite to the air warrants a comfy sweatshirt or chunky sweater, but the warmth of the sun affords mid-afternoon walks, crunching through the leaves, or enjoying a few more back-and-forths on the swing.

While I’m well aware that flip-flops aren’t the most practical, supportive, or fashionable shoes, they are a staple I’ve grown to love.  The fact that I can still wear them well into October is happiness indeed.

Flip Flops

This was a test shot I took for my first “official” photoshoot for some friends.  I thought the colors were too pretty to toss into the recycle bin.

Taken at dusk and perhaps photographically unimpressive, I can’t help but smile when I see those chubby cheeks.  Knowing his upturned eyes are gazing admiringly at his daddy makes my heart flutter!

Good week? Bad week?

For some reason I felt the need to nosh this week.  I felt especially hungry and really wanted sweet treats.  I was rather apprehensive and had my “no-weigh-in” pass in my hands just in case I needed to cash it in.  So….I was very pleased to see a 3.8lb loss this week!

On a whim, I went for a mile jog this weekend and hope to start going more regularly.  In fact, I found a 5k on Thanksgiving Day and plan to participate.  What better way to take advantage of a typically food-oriented holiday and turn it into a day of activity.

From the Future ~ BSM

While most people use the timestamp feature to prepare their posts ahead of time, I, on the other hand, am using it to play catch up!

As we enjoyed some beautiful weather last weekend (mid-80s folks in October folks!) we took the kids to the park in an attempt to capture some cute shots.

This little furrowed-brow look is one she flashes A-L-O-T !!

Love the tongue sticking out – it must help him concentrate.

This slide is slow and bumpy, Mom!

Or maybe the tongue helps him balance.  Notice the blurry hands – he was bustin’ some serious surfin’ moves here!

Finally, he’s not “too cool” and shows how proud he is to be “King of the Rock!”

It was so sunny and this one was so blown out, that I embraced the brightness and processed it differently.  This one has to be my favorite!  One crying, the other oblivious….such is life!

Fall Friday

I must say I’ve been completely and pleasantly surprised thus far by my precious daughter’s nighttime sleeping habits.  I was fully prepared to make it until the 8-month mark (the age at which my sweet son decided to sleep through the night) and instead have waited only until 8 weeks!  Granted, I’m sure there will be nights here and there…but wow, a full night of rest does wonders for the soul!

Add that to a great morning, and a day when hubs gets to come directly home after school and the near-70s weather, and it was a fabulous Friday!  We took a walk, made a trip to drop off recycling, came home and got dinner started while we played on the deck and I held a mini photo shoot with Seneca.  She’s finally over her little bout of baby acne, and I believe the cradle cap is under control now too.  Plus, she’s smiling and cooing like crazy.  She seems to be growing too fast!

I snapped a handful of shots, but here’s the one that I think is the keeper out of the bunch!  We’ll keep trying…I have a feeling she won’t be hurting when it comes to finding a few pictures for her “All About Me” poster come school time!
