We had tons of fun spending time with Daddy’s family in the U.P. last week, and exploring the campground and Higgins Lake with Mommy’s family over the 4th! I’m quickly becoming quite a ham and keeping everyone quite entertained!
Mom has a bunch of pictures to work on, so I’m sure she’ll be posting them soon now that we’re finally home and getting back into the “normal” routine.

As we made our way slowly down from the U.P. just yesterday, stopping for a wonderful visit with a friend and her precious girls, Garth and I talked about how much this getaway has been absolutely perfect for us.
We’re savoring every moment with family, watching Calder grow and connect with cousins, aunts, grandparents and more. And while we can’t be with everyone we’d like to be this holiday weekend, we send our love and well-wishes to each of you.
Since we’re all a little sun-kissed, and dirty-footed, I figured tossing in some unprocessed photos would fit the theme of the laid-back weekend quite well. Here’s a little dose of red, white, and blue from around Great Grandma’s place!
when the sight of these beauties would have sent me running in the opposite direction. Seriously. Where did I pick-up my aversion? I have no idea. Slowly, over the past seven years I have gradually come to know their deliciously simple pleasure.
Granted, it started with shortcake, then recently one of the chocolate-covered variety, and finally…today, pure and simple strawberry. Perhaps it was the perfect blend of sunshine and breeze that made it seem right. Or was it the grubby little hand grasping tightly to my finger as we traversed the uneven ground of Papa’s Garden?
Perhaps all of these factors combined into the perfect taste of summer.
Looking back, we have a handful of shots of C. wearing hats. And these are just the few I could find (I’m still working on learning how to best organize my photos), and those that were actually caught by the camera. Sometimes he wears them willingly, other times it’s a bit of a struggle to keep the thing on his precious head for more than a few seconds. Last week, we hit the jackpot! Not only was he absolutely adorable – but it was very clear that he felt pretty slick too, walking around wearing Daddy’s cowboy hat.
I love his look here, when he first puts it on. You can almost see how hard he’s trying to contain his excitement…
