In need of a fix

I can hardly believe that I haven’t posted a single thing for nearly two weeks!  Especially considering all the excitement these past two weeks have brought.  I guess I just had to report that I’m still here, I’ve got LOTS of stories, but like everyone else I know, I have absolutely ZERO time to sit down and write up these stories.

Just so I don’t forget, I’ll leave you with a few teasers….

  • on the move
  • proud mother to a new digital SLR
  • singular and plural (tooth – teeth)
  • holiday decorating
  • “I wanna be a part of it….”

Celebrity Sighting

While I fully plan to write more detailed posts – or perhaps more creative, I do have to report that throughout our wanderings today, we randomly asked directions to Peanut Butter and Company.  When I heard the woman respond, I looked up and made a slight squeak.  I recognized her, but couldn’t place her, think of her name, or do anything but listen to her direct us up the street.

I think she knew there was some recognition and I really wanted to ask for a picture, but didn’t because I didn’t want to be “that” person.  Despite a picture with her to prove the veracity of our sighting, it was especially great to have seen Mary Louise Parker during our meanderings in the Village today.  The best part, is that she was so helpful and so down to Earth.

I desperately want to send her correspondence thanking her for the directions and for being kind to some mid-west girls looking for some food!  We’ll see if that ever happens….

Don’t worry – pictures will be coming soon!

The City that Never Sleeps

Well, almost.  I can hardly stand being so close to the city and not yet in it!  We arrived at our Newark hotel around 11:30 tonight, after two rather turbulent flights and a slight delay in Detroit (isn’t that always the case?).  Yet here I am, still awak and planning to get up in a mere 5 hours to put in a really long day of conferences and running around the city in all my reminiscent glory!

But, I had to post.  I had to report that so far I haven’t broken down into a heap of sobbing having been separated from my child since 4 o’clock today and turning in for my first night away from him.  I know that this will be a good experience and I have no doubt that my husband will do an amazing job flying solo this weekend…it’s just that there was something pretty cool, knowing that I’d been with him every night of his little life.

But now I have a different cool thing to report.  After two nights of waking to uncontrollable wails from the nursery, this morning we discovered the culprit.  A tiny, nearly imperceptible edge of a bottom tooth!  That’s right!  He’s got some pearly whites!  I’m interested to see how much more it has come through when I return on Sunday!  I’m also curious about how 5 days on the bottle will go.  It could be a really good thing, while he’s getting used to this newfound toy.  Or a really bad thing, since bottles don’t feel pain when chomped on and tugged!

Well, that’s my exciting news for today.  I have a million and one other ideas floating around in my sleepy head, but they will have to find their way to all of you another day.

Feelin’ the love

Getting ready this morning I heard my phone buzzing away on the counter and learned I missed a call from my “little” brother.  I can only imagine what he wanted/needed what with his w-e-d-d-i-n-g being only 80 days away and all!

That got me to thinking that perhaps a handful of my readers may want to swing by their wedding web page and read about their big day!  They included a link to their site on the Save the Date cards, but I’m not sure if it worked perfectly.  Try this first.  If that doesn’t work simply go to the knot and in the lower right-hand corner you can search for a couple’s wedding web page.  Be sure to type in Lucas (not Luke) Ewing or Ann Geddie.

Be sure to sign their guestbook to wish them well!

Pleasantly surprised

After drifting off to sleep at a relatively early hour last night, chubby-cheeked baby in the crook of my arm, I woke up feeling quite refreshed today.  I suppose that’s good considering my 12+ hour day!  Though I still have a few things to do, I’m about to call it a night and turn in.  I’ve come to terms with the fact that I will never be caught up on everything and in the grande scheme of things some of what I worry about just isn’t worth it.

Today was the first day of cheer practice and I had 11 girls come out for 7th grade, with another 9 in attendance for 8th grade.  I think we’re going to keep it in two teams which might work much better for practice schedules and so forth.  They did a great job learning the first 10-count drill and seem to be a pretty good group so far.  I can’t wait to work them a little harder and join in on some of their warm-up so I’m getting a slight workout too!

Following practice I wrapped up a few things in my classroom, chatted with the 8th grade coach and headed off to weight watchers.  I was pleasantly surprised with my 2.4lb loss this week and decided that it was a lucky break…again!  I had a friend join last week, so having a closer accountability partner is nice.  Plus, there are two colleagues of mine at the meetings and another couple folks on plan in our small group.  That placement is nice because folks are bringing healthy treats since there are so many of us trying to “be good.”

What pleasant surprises have you had recently?
