A Hard Day’s Work ~ BSM

Last weekend we trekked to the U.P. to visit Garth’s family.  It’s hard to believe it had been since Labor Day that we’d been up there, and that we wouldn’t make it again until at least Christmas.  We always have such a great time when we visit.  I remember how antsy Garth got during those summers of apartment living.  Who’d have thought that not having a lawn to maintain, flowers to plant, and so forth would be the source of complaints!  But being the hard worker he is, he enjoys putting in a hard day’s work.  That, and he likes playing with big toys like tractors!  Sorry babe, no need for a tractor ’round these parts just yet!

With much of the needed firewood already cut and stacked, it simply needed to be split and stored in the woodshed.  While the boys (and Kegan – she’s a hard worker too!) worked on that much of Saturday, the kids and I enjoyed some time with Mom and Jill.  When Calder finally went down for a nap, Jill and I headed out for a walk.

When all was done I believe they put up about 6.5 face cords of wood.   (I think I said that right.  I would have said “lots” but I suppose “face cord” is a more standardized unit of measure in this case!).

(I think this one has to be my favorite of this series!  Perhaps not the best technically, but seeing the guys together, working hard, and yet having a good time – that’s pretty cool!)

Considering the possible injuries that could have resulted, we’ll take the hole in the glove – even if it did happen much earlier than Dad would have liked!

Somehow, I managed to get through the weekend with very few pictures of the kids with their cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents!  I tell ya, I’m slippin’ here folks!  I’ll be sure to capture a few of those shots when we head that way for Christmas – which is surprisingly right around the corner!

Enlightenment ~ Best Shot Monday

I remember thinking once that because I was in on the planning and the behind-the-scenes work of the women’s retreat, that it might not be as “real” an experience for me.  I’ve already interacted with the journal, put labels on the candy bars, and gone back and forth to design the t-shirt.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The power of honesty and really connecting with other women who are also seeking God’s will for their lives, was amazingly transformative.  Whether we shared in a large or small group setting, or spent quiet moments reading and reflecting, we all left changed in one way or another.

There were so many breathtaking moments that couldn’t be captured by the camera, so these few shots at sunrise on Saturday morning, will have to suffice.  I honestly can’t pick a favorite as my best shot, so let me know which one you prefer.

From the Future ~ BSM

While most people use the timestamp feature to prepare their posts ahead of time, I, on the other hand, am using it to play catch up!

As we enjoyed some beautiful weather last weekend (mid-80s folks in October folks!) we took the kids to the park in an attempt to capture some cute shots.

This little furrowed-brow look is one she flashes A-L-O-T !!

Pretty in Purple

Love the tongue sticking out – it must help him concentrate.

This slide is slow and bumpy, Mom!

Rock Climbing 2

Or maybe the tongue helps him balance.  Notice the blurry hands – he was bustin’ some serious surfin’ moves here!

Rock Climbing 3

Finally, he’s not “too cool” and shows how proud he is to be “King of the Rock!”

Rock Climbing 4

It was so sunny and this one was so blown out, that I embraced the brightness and processed it differently.  This one has to be my favorite!  One crying, the other oblivious….such is life!

Best Shot Monday ~ Cider Mill Fun

We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for our trip to Uncle John’s Cider Mill on Saturday.  It was great fall fun and it gave us a chance to hang out with our friends for a while too!

Learning to Shine ~ Best Shot Monday

I fully intended to post this picture (among others) for Stacy’s playtime theme last week, but [insert excuse].  I did have the chance to play around with PS a little more this week/weekend and I’d like to say I’m starting to get it, but I think that’s being generous.  There are still SO many things that happen that I don’t know I could duplicate.

I followed the steps in this tutorialto build more a different type of frame and I think it worked relatively well.  I’m still playing with borders and such.  I believe the image itself is SOOC (so I could have played along with Melody on Saturday too, but [insert different excuse]).  I was SO excited to get this shot!  We just replaced the batteries in Calder’s little toy (first and last time since they were already dying a few hours later!) and I took this in near darkness using my remote.  So, a few days late and in under the wire tonight…here’s my best shot for this fine Monday (it’s even better big)!
