Meet Sam…

Sam

He looks harmless, right?  According to a certain toddler living in our home, he’s a pretty scary dude.  Even after repeated “introductions” wherein we point out his eyes, nose, mouth, and hair and even give him kisses, Calder remains rather uncertain of this scarecrow.

At one point I simply said the word “scarecrow” which incited the same scared response.  Arms pulled back and high on his chest, backpeddling and raised eyebrows.  Now, we call him “Sam” which he seems to be less afraid of.

So, I’m guessing that if this freaks him out, taking him trick-or-treating would likely be tragic.  This might be a good year to stay home and hand out candy instead.

Family, Fun and Freedom

As we made our way slowly down from the U.P. just yesterday, stopping for a wonderful visit with a friend and her precious girls, Garth and I talked about how much this getaway has been absolutely perfect for us.

We’re savoring every moment with family, watching Calder grow and connect with cousins, aunts, grandparents and more.  And while we can’t be with everyone we’d like to be this holiday weekend, we send our love and well-wishes to each of you.

Since we’re all a little sun-kissed, and dirty-footed, I figured tossing in some unprocessed photos would fit the theme of the laid-back weekend quite well.  Here’s a little dose of red, white, and blue from around Great Grandma’s place!

Wonder ~ Best Shot Monday

I think this sufficiently wraps up my Christmas picture fun…whew!  I know it’s a year away, but I can already imagine how much I’ll miss his “babyness” when his noticeably leaner hands tear into the wrapped gifts next Christmas.  I love the concentration and peace on his face.  Considering the surrounding chaos, it’s especially adorable.

Presents

What could it be? I can almost hear him making a thousand different guesses.

Calder and Dad

Beyond the gifts, the goodies, and the guy with the big white beard…there’s greatness to this holiday that I cannot wait to share.  Someday, my sweet boy, that same look of awe and wonder will cross your face when you realize the magnitude of the greatest gift that is yours for the taking.
