As so it begins…

I knew it would be a little trying to get into the swing of the school-year schedule, but I didn’t realize just how long the days would become.  We’ve always led busy lives and I knew that having a baby would turn our lives upside down.  I know it’s only been a couple of days and all in all things are going relatively well.  I just need to build my stamina so I can make it through without wanting to turn in at 4:30!!  I suppose it didn’t help that Calder got overly tired tonight and screamed his little head off for about an hour!  Nothing we could do would soothe him.  It’s amazing how powerless I feel when he gets like that.  Eventually, he did give in and snuggled up when I climbed the stairs for the umpteenth time.

As he sniff-sniff-sniffled with his little post-crying breaths, he relaxed and finally fell into a steady rhythm.  Even though I know I should get a couple miles in on the treadmill tonight, I think I’m going to turn in for now and try to hit the open road tomorrow.

Feelin’ the Love

After a 12-hour first day at school (G. has late practice this week), we just finished dinner (I know, it’s really late to have just eaten) and wrapping up our lunches for tomorrow.  My legs are killing me!  It’s amazing how just standing all day really takes a toll.  I did run on the riverwalk with the new jogger for the first time.  It’s a lot harder than I thought it’d be!  I think not having the power of your arms really makes the difference.  I found myself running one handed a lot.  Plus, it’s so different running outside than it is inside on the treadmill.  I climbed some killer hills (remember the one we walked in the massive snowstorm Mom and Dad?), but all in all I made it about 2 miles running and walked maybe another mile or so.

And (drumroll please) I weighed in tonight a little worried about the holiday picnic yesterday and the couple of nights of pizza.  But, it must have worked out in the long run because I was down another 4.2!!!  That makes a grand total of around 18 pounds so far!  It feels really go do be doing more to get healthier and to stay active.  Plus, I think I’m a much happier teacher right now than I would have been had I needed to dress for work 18 pounds ago! 🙂

I hope to post some shots of my classroom later this week…but for now, I have to do a little computer work and then rest up for tomorrow’s crazy day!  It seems like my classes are going to be pretty good for the most part…it will just a take a while to get used to 2nd hour conference.  It will all fall into place soon enough though!

I hope everyone else is enjoying a good start to their school year…and if you’re out there, stop by and say hello.  I haven’t had any comments in a super long time.  Didn’t you accept my apology for missing a few days worth of entries?

The poop continues

We’ve taken him to the doctor, asked both our parents, our daycare provider, and frankly anyone else who will listen when the conversation shifts to the color, texture, odor and frequency of bowel movements, and still we have no answer as to this crazy new poop schedule.  Even though it might sound like we’re totally freaking out, we’re not.  We still have our happy-go-lucky little guy, complete with buckets-o-drool and sparkly eyes!  We’ve just upped the rate at which we plow through diapers!

As I write, my wonderful hubby just finished cleaning up another stinky diaper and is now joining me for breakfast (which he graciously made, granting me a few more minutes of shut-eye).  I am sooo very blessed to have such a wonderful man!  I wouldn’t know what to do if it weren’t for the amazing help, support and encouragement he gives on a daily basis.  Thanks, Babe!!

Congratulations to…

my “little” brother and his fiance Ann!  It’s been a long couple of weeks waiting to announce this happiness here on my blog, but I didn’t want to spoil the fun of telling everyone.  Though, I’ve been assured that folks now know and I can blab all I want! 🙂

We’re thrilled to have Ann as a part of our family (yeah, I get another sister!) and can’t wait for the big day!  January will be here before we know it!

Pardon the quality of the image, but it was taken from my phone at Luke’s AF graduation.  They make a great couple, don’t you think?!

Saturday Sun, Saturday Fun

Checking out Great Grandma's handsGarth, Calder and I had the pleasure of taking Great Grandma Ewing out for brunch this morning.  From my childhood camping trips at the South Higgins Lake State Park, I vividly remember heading out for breakfast at the Cut River Restaurant.  I was thrilled to start the camping tradition with Calder this summer, though we did not indulge in a breakfast visit.

There have been several changes (no more painted saws adorning the walls) from what I remember as a child, it was still a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning.  I love watching Grandma with Calder…..I just think about all the things I have learned from my grandparents and can’t wait for him to share in those memories as well.

Likely the most exciting aspect of our trip was the addition to the Ewing household.  A 6-month old Labradoodle pup named Riley.  Grandma’s new companion is all-puppy (read very excitable, quite clumsy and still prone to accidents).  Nonetheless he seems very lovable and will hopefully settle into a good routine with Grandma.

Riley

Upon our return home, we enjoyed a nice long walk with our new jogger.  Calder liked it so much he slept most of the time.  After devouring his cereal and nursing, he was bathed and put to bed.  Things are getting better with our nighttime routine too.  We held things off a little later the past couple of nights and that seemed to work well.  He’s such a little stinker though…he rolls all over now, and flashes this adorably mischevious smile whenever I go up to untangle or reposition him.  That reminds me…I wish we would have gotten a picture of it, but today he successfully “handcuffed” himself with his Linkadoos.  He had fallen asleep while playing with them, and somehow managed to get one around both wrists.  Only when he awoke and went to stretch did he realize he couldn’t move very far.  It was pretty cute!  More later!
