Just catching up…

So I was at Babies R Us the other day (yes, I still frequent the place) and I was thinking about buying one of those first-year calendars where I could record all his fabulous milestones.  Then I realized that he’s almost halfway through the calendar already!  That realization is what leads me here to record all the milestones he’s reached thus far.  Mind you, those milestones that make my heart flutter may not be completely aligned with those agreed upon by the medical profession.

  • First bottle – 4 weeks
  • First social smile – 6 weeks
  • Rolled from belly to back – 1 month (mind you he did this 2 more times that following week and then not again until about 4 months!)
  • Starts “talking” – 8 weeks
  • First airplane ride – 10 weeks
  • First swim – 10 weeks 
  • Found his hands – 10 weeks
  • Started drooling – 10 weeks (unlike rolling over, this skill is one he continues to master!)
  • Begins to hold head steady – 11 weeks
  • Turns toward my voice – 12 weeks (awww!)
  • Begins to bear light weight on legs – 12 weeks (he LOVES to stand!!)
  • First babysitter – 13 weeks (Thanks Grandma!)
  • Started sleeping through the night – 12-14 weeks
  • First giggle – 12-14 weeks
  • Second airplane ride – 18 weeks
  • First consonant sounds (ga) – 18 weeks
  • First “full-time” babysitter – 18 weeks
  • First professional development seminar – 21 weeks
  • Noticeably turns torward speaker in a group conversation – 21 weeks
  • Rolled from back to belly – 21 weeks

Training

In addition to becoming a fellow weight watcher, my husband and I are also training to run a 5k in mid-September.  After realizing that I needed new shoes (apparently your feet really do get bigger after pregnancy) I officially started training.  I know, I know.  Some of you out there will think it’s downright hilarious that I’m “training” for a 5k, but when you’ve spent the last year of your life leasing your body out to another tenant, it does take a bit to get back into the swing of things. 

Sure, I still have a LONG way to go before I’m race ready, but I’m already amazed at how much easier it is to run for a little longer and how my legs have stopped killing me when I head down the steps.  It’s pretty encouraging to see how quickly you can get in shape when you put your mind to it. 

As for my first week of WW, I feel really good.  I’ve tried really hard to have strictly core meals, but I’m sure I’ve missed on a couple of items.  However, I think just being conscious of the food choices I’m making has been a step in the right direction.  I’ve realized just how many calories I used to consume in the form of yummy cappuccinos or frozen treats.  Hopefully I’ll be able to report a great weigh in on Tuesday night!
